Lorna Balintay is from Sitio Poquiz, Barangay Maasin, San Clemente, Tarlac.  She is an Aeta native, married and with two kids in high school. Despite caring for her family, she is determined to pursue and finish her education. She went back to school and is currently in her third year of college. She is an irregular student  due to her lack of finances. She humbly needs the help of people to help her finish.

Lorna is about to take her “observation and practice teaching” that requires her to stay the whole day in a school where she will practice her future profession.  She and her husband are trying to make ends meet through selling bamboo banks or the “alkansya” worth P50.00. However, not all people need an alkansya in this modern day and age of banks and vaults.  Lorna needs financial assistance so she can make her dreams come true.  She may not be considered an above average student, but she possesses the determination to finish her education. In fact, her drive to finish is bigger than her body!  She did not pass any scholarship, but she has maintained good grades (therefore, we believe that she can be given a chance at our sponsorship). Also, she wants to offer her life to teach her fellow “katutubo” (natives) after graduation.

Each semester is five months long, and Lorna needs at least one hundred fifty pesos (P150.00) per day in order to survive her two remaining semesters (plus one more summer class before graduation). Her tuition fee costs P10,000 (ten thousand) a semester. In addition, she will need extra money for the teaching aids and visual aids in her practice teaching. She is the first person in her tribe who is about to finish a college degree.

Any financial or “in-kind” assistance will be well appreciated and used for Lorna’s success in achieving her plans and dreams in life. As she says, “Poverty is not a hindrance to success. I will help my tribe be competent like other people, and I will serve them the best that I can.”
